Through Our Lens

Through Our Lens is an exhibition created by Tiber Young Producers bringing together video, photography, and collage to reflect on their community, their histories and their visions for the future.

The project began as a journey into local archives and has evolved into something more urgent, a reflection of now — of lived experience, community spirit and a generation finding its voice. Through food, photography, and rich cross-generational conversations, the group uncovered not just stories of the past but a powerful sense of the present.

From these experiences came a manifesto — a declaration that acknowledges what has come before but centres the present and shares a call to action:

Our story, Our Tocky.

Despite what they think, this is our place.

Unity is strength, diversity is power, vulnerability can be a superpower.

Knowledge and community are wealth.

Let's build a foundation, let's set an example. Be the change we want to see.

Though the past is layered, the future is ours to make.

Together, these works explore the complexity of growing up in Toxteth, a place of strength, belonging, challenge and pride. As change reshapes the area, including the Tiber Centre’s brand-new community space, Through Our Lens asks: how do we hold on to the things we value most? Our culture, our sense of community, our history and what is worth fighting for?

The future is in our hands.
